Remember, Travel Cover Is For Loss And Medical Treatment

People travel wide and far these days and are increasingly participating in risky sports.  It is surprising, therefore, that many people still go abroad without taking out private travel insurance.

There is a bewildering choice in cover if you should look on the internet, and that may be one of the reasons that travellers avoid taking out cover.  It is false economy not take out insurance as an accident can happen any time anywhere.  It need not even be your fault, but you still may end up in hospital.

Some sites have made it really easy to find the right cover for your particular holiday.  Some insurers even point out that if you cannot afford to buy cover, how can you possibly afford your trip?

If you go to risky places you will need to ensure that you buy cover for every eventuality.  If you are going on group travel, you will be able to buy insurance for everyone involved.  If you are going overseas, it might be worth your while to make sure that all medical expenses, luggage, sports and activities are adequately insured.

In developing countries where care may be poor, you would do well to make sure that you buy a policy that gives you round the clock emergency assistance.  It may cost a little more for add-ons, but at least you can go on holiday with no worries to enjoy yourself.

I do not think there are many people with medical problems who would not want to be insured.  Cover for people such as these is also available, albeit not always on a multi trip basis.  It all depends how well your condition is managed.

If you should find that you would like to extend your trip abroad whilst you are already there, there is often a facility to extend your cover online.  If you are in a medical assistance situation, you can also claim online with some insurers.

You need to know that some insurance companies will pay you back on receipt of bills.

You Can Go Travelling With A Heart Condition!

Travel cover is always important, but never more so when you are recovering from a medical condition.  You would certainly try and get travel insurance after heart attack, for instance.

You may have to search a little longer on the internet, but you need to know that insurance for pre-existing conditions is available to you.

You should not be surprised if your insurance is going to be a little more expensive as from the insurance company’s standpoint, you are more likely to need assistance than someone who is fit and healthy.

Cover is surprisingly cheap if you look online.  You may only be able to get away for a week at a time, but a break is always beneficial to anyone’s health.  When you have found an insurer, you will see that you will have to answer some pretty searching questions about your current health.

It is absolutely important that you should answer these truthfully.  It is never worth the risk to lower your premium by withholding some information.  It may cost you dearly if you fall ill and end up in hospital.  You may find that your insurance policy will be invalid and you will then have to pay for your treatment out of your own pocket.

The best way to get the most advantageous cover is to do you research properly and compare prices between the different companies.  There are some countries where medical care is very expensive.

If you want to travel to any of them you may find cover very high.  These countries tend to be the United States and the Caribbean.  If you should go to Turkey, however, you may find a cheaper policy.

Medical care in the latter country is good and relatively inexpensive.  It needs to be said that your companion may have to act as nurse if you end up in hospital.  It may be sensible to cover yourself and your partner in the event that you have to prolong your trip due to hospitalisation.

Your Travel Insurance Check List

It is always a challenge if you suffer from an existing medical problem, but if you plan to go on holiday you will have to think of travel insurance with medical conditions first.  It is no use going away without it because it could cost you dearly if you should fall ill.

Travelling With Breast Cancer: Keep It Stress Free

You might assume that if you have breast cancer, that you can't really go on holiday – maybe a weekend to Cornwall, but a fortnight in the Caribbean is off the list. Well, that's not true, providing your cancer and treatment are relatively stable, you can take your two weeks in the sun. Sure, some holidays might be out of the question – white water rafting in the Nile, for instance – but a nice, traditional, holiday is more than possible.

Why An Expat Needs Insurance When Returning To The Uk

It is not normally easy to get travel insurance outside UK if you are already abroad or living there.  To obtain cover you will have to find a specialist insurance company on the internet.

If you are an ex-pat and plan to travel to the United Kingdom you would benefit from having medical cover.  This may sound strange with the National Health free at the point of service. However if you have not lived in your own country for a while you may find that you will be charged should you end up in hospital.

You would have to have been back for six months to be eligible to have treatment under the free National Health Service.  I know this because a friend of mine became ill and they would not treat her because she only had been back for four months or so to look after her terminally ill sister.

It is especially important to get cover if you are of advanced age and have a medical condition.  Your illness may be well managed by modern medicines, but a change of climate or diet may put your system out of kilter.

For these kinds of cases there are also companies that will insure you for your trip, even if you have cancer, diabetes or heart problems.

Together with this type of cover you may want to add other bits of insurance such as cancellation, lost luggage or lost property.

I have been an expat now for 9 years.  There are many of us who for one reason or another choose to move to another sunnier country for financial reasons.  Many Britons who moved to Spain are now keen to move back home because of the dire property crisis.  Many assume that they can pick up NHS care as they have paid their stamp all their lives.

If you have had health issues in the country you are currently residing and you are covered by insurance there, it does not automatically mean that you can re-register with a doctor easily.  Unfortunately, because so many non-British travellers come specifically to our country for costly medical procedures, the loopholes have been stopped.

Fly Off Without It But Don’t Panic

When you lock the front door and set off on your longed for summer holiday do you suffer from that niggling feeling that you have forgotten something?

By the time you arrive at the airport you may be convinced that you forgot to turn off the oven or didn’t lock the back door. You’re not alone in this; many suffer from this sort of insecurity but there is one important matter that many of us forget and that is travel insurance.

Not having travel insurance is very risky no matter how fit and healthy you feel. If you end up in hospital for any reason at all you will quickly realize it can be an expensive error. In the UK we may moan about the state of the Health Service but not until you have been hit with a bill abroad can you really begin to appreciate it.

A broken finger that involved a trip to a hospital and an x-ray with a nurse applying a small splint and bandage cost my friend over £400 in Turkey recently and that equalled the cost of the return flight.

Even travelling within the EU does not mean health care is free it merely gives you the same service as the people living in that country. The European Health Insurance Card, or EHIC, looks reassuring but it is not necessarily so.

It’s also not going to cover added expenses such as return travel if delayed or loss of personal luggage and private travel insurance is the only way to cover all eventualities out of your control on holiday.

So you are now sitting on the plane running through a checklist of things that could be wrong with your home that might by now in your mind’s eye be going up in flames. You might also be struck by the thought that you forgot to take out holiday insurance for yourself and the rest of your family.

Don’t panic! Travel insurance already left UK is still available from this insurer and all you have to do is call them when you finally arrive at your destination.

92 And Still On The Slopes

A friend of mine has just set off on a skiing trip and it’s the third time she has been abroad in as many months.

She finds and books flights online and arranges for her house to be looked after in her absence before driving herself to the airport.Although she is a little old to be skiing it’s the après ski she’s after andthe amazing point about this lady is that she is in the 93rd year of her life.

Apart from some deteriorating eyesight she is otherwise as fit as a fiddle and when not gallivanting around the globe has time to manage a turtle rescue center in Turkey.

Keeping very busy must be the key to long life and the next time you see an old folks home you may want to ask yourself the question of whether they wouldn't be a lot better off in the gym rather than sitting in armchairs in front of the television.

One thing my friend always makes sure of is good travel insurance. This may come as a bit of a surprise but fully comprehensive travel insurance over 70, 80 or even 90 years of age is possible as long as you know where to look.

When making the application at this sort of age it is more important than ever to be absolutely truthful about any existing medical condition.  If you have high blood pressure it must be reported even if you feel it is under control with medication.

High blood pressure and old age is a deadly mix as tiny blood vessels weaken as we get older and strokes become more likely than when we were younger.

At any age travel insurance should be seen as an essential preparation for an overseas holiday. As UK residents we take it for granted that in any accident or illness that requires a doctor and possibly hospital treatment we will be taken care of with no charge.

Even within Europe this is not the case as a European Health Insurance Card only entitles you to the charges applicable in that country.
